GamePad Companion Support
All devices recognized by the Mac OS X HID mechanism should work with GamePad Companion. This includes gamepads, joysticks, mice and other similar devices. We have put together a list of devices that have been tested with GamePad Companion 3.1, however this is not a comprehensive list. So if your GamePad is not listed, it doesn't mean it isn't supported. Supported Machines
All Apple computers that officially support Mac OS X 10.6.6 should work with GamePad Companion 3.1.
Supported Applications
Any application that runs on Mac OS X version 10.6.6 , either natively or in Classic mode, should
work with GamePad Companion. You should not use it with games that have built in support for HID devices.
UPDATE
Some of our customers who have restored from a Time Machine backup can have incorrect system permissions for the system folder at "/var/db/launch.db/". This can cause GamePad Companion to not work properly.
To check the permissions of your directory:
In Terminal type "ls -le /var/db/launchd.db/", this will show the permissions of this directory.
The output should start with:
- total 0
- drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel
If you don't see that output, then your permissions are likely wrong. You can fix them in Terminal by typing "sudo chmod -RN /var/db/launchd.db". It will ask for your admin password in order to run that command to change the permissions.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can I use multiple GamePads with GamePad Companion? Answer: Yes you can, you can use up to 6 HID devices with GamePad Companion.
2.I already own GamePad Companion 2.4, can I upgrade too GamePad Companion 3.1 for free? No, the Mac App Store does not offer upgrade pricing, however we have significantly reduced the price of GamePad Companion to just $7.99.
3. Why doesn't my GamePad appear in the GamePads box? Answer: If your controller fails to appear in the GamePads box, first try unplugging and then replugging your controller into the computer. If it is still not recognized this means your GamePad is not supported at this time.
4.Can I save a configuration for use later? Answer: Yes you can, after configuring your GamePad just select the "Save Layout tab" within the "Layouts" pop-up button.
5.Why does my computer start beeping and/or acting weird when I turn GamePad Companion on? Answer: This either means that one of the buttons on your GamePad is stuck down, or possibly that the sensitivity on one of the multi-key elements you configured is too high.First unplug your controller and turn GamePad Companion off, then plug the controller back in and adjust your settings.
6. Why does my mouse cursor act like it has a mind of it's own (moving around) when I turn GamePad Companion on? Answer: This most likely means that the mouse elements you configured are either too high or too low. First unplug your controller and turn GamePad Companion off, then plug the controller back in and adjust your "Sensitivity Calibration"" settings
7. Is the support page for GamePad Companion 2.4 still available? Answer: Yes, you can access the page by clicking this link GamePad Companion 2.4 Support.
X-Box 360 GamePad Instructions
The Xbox 360 GamePads are supported, however there are a couple of requirements to get them working properly.
1. The Xbox 360 GamePad requires a driver that can be downloaded for free, it can be found here : 360 GamePad Driver.
2. When using a wireless Xbox 360 GamePad, a Microsoft wireless gaming receiver is also required. When using a wired gamepad, it must be a built in wire. Trying to use the charging cables with the wireless gamepads will have no result, these cables only charge the gamepads battery. To find a retailer that sells the Microsoft Wireless Gaming Receiver you can search google for "Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows".
*Note about the required driver: You can only apply actions for an axis to the Xbox 360 trigger elements. This is because these triggers have a range of values[i.e. 0-90] rather then just two values [on & off], and the driver reports the triggers as "Axis Elements" [i.e. Z-axis, or Y-axis].
GamePad Companion Update v3.1
1. Significantly improves mouse movement to provide smoother gameplay.
2. Adds new "Steady Aim" and "Steam Mode" settings to better customize mouse movement for certain games.
3. Fixes bad crash that was occurring with a few generic gamepads.
4. "Mouse Acceleration" was removed from the configuration options. *With the improvements to the mouse, we feel this is no longer a useful feature.
