GamePad Companion 2.4 Support

All devices recognized by the Mac OS X HID mechanism should work with GamePad Companion. This includes gamepads, joysticks, mice and other similar devices. If you don't have Mac OS X 10.6.6 with the Mac App Store, we highly recommend you upgrade your OS to be able to use GamePad Companion 3.0. We recommend the upgrade, because we will no longer be providing updates to GamePad Companion 2.4.

Supported Machines
All Apple computers that officially support Mac OS X should work with GamePad Companion.

Supported Applications
Any application that runs on Mac OS X version 10.4 or later, either natively or in Classic mode, should work with GamePad Companion. You should not use it with games that have built in support for HID devices.

Using Multiple Devices Simultaneously
You should be able to simultaneously use up to 6 HID devices with the full version of GamePad Companion.

Uninstalling Gamepad Companion 2.4
If you need to remove GamePad Companion, just delete the preference panel located at /Library/PreferencePanes/GamePadCompanionPrefPanel.prefPane

Trouble Shooting
1. If your device is a HID device and it is not recognized by GamePad Companion, try disconnecting/reconnecting your device, and then try restarting GamePad Companion. If that does not work then try restarting your computer. Also make sure there are no other applications running that are directly connected to your device.
2. If GamePad Companion was working fine and now crashes on launch or otherwise is acting odd, then you might have a corrupt preferences file. Try deleting or renaming the ~/Library/Preferences/com.carvware.gamecompanionpref.plist file located in your home directory.
3. If you press the start button and your machine starts beeping and acting weird, then it is probably because either one of the mapped buttons on your controller is stuck down, or more likely because the sensitivity is set too high on one of the multi-key elements that you have mapped. Make sure none of your mapped buttons are stuck, and try decreasing the key sensitivity for the multi-key elements.
4. If you press the start button then begin playing a game, and the controller acts like the left, right, down, or up key is being held down, even though you are not pressing anything, then the key sensitivity is most likely set too high. Try decreasing it for whichever key was acting as if it were held down.
5. If you use Stuffit Expander 8.0 to uncompress the GamePad Companion download, than the installer might fail with an error like "The preflight script was either not executable or not readable." Here is an article from Aladdin's describing the issue: http://www.aladdinsys.com/support/techsupport/qanda.php?id=534&sessionid=55337 Please try with a different version of Stuffit.
6. Intel based Macs require GamePad Companion 2.4 or later.
